Coordination structurelle des centres de santé pour une meilleure gestion des déchets biomédicaux au district sanitaire de Baskuy au Burkina Faso

Abstract

The ineffective coordination of health centers by an administrative institution remains a problem in the management of Biomedical Solid Waste (HBW) in Burkina Faso. This study aims at contributing to the coordination mechanism improvement of health centers for better management of BMWs. The Baskuy health district located in downtown of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, was chosen for this study. The assessment of the current coordination of health centers in the management of BMWs was carried out through a documentary analysis, interviews and visits. The optimized coordination was achieved through the application of the Henry Mintzberg organizational model. The results have shown that the coordination of the organizations involved in the management of biomedical waste is characterized by dysfunctions at the level of strategic top, hierarchical line, operational center, technostructure and support functions. This lack of coordination is particularly due to the weakness of the coordination mechanism, the conflicts of competences between the actors and the insufficiency of financial and logistical resources. An optimized proposal of Mintzberg model from the contextualization of the coordination will allow a better management of DBMs.
